Fit healthy lifestyle – sensibly includes proper hydration, meal planning, vitamins, sleep… But pre-workout powder, in your mouth, no water…? Hopefully NOT.
Going viral across numerous social media platforms, this dangerous new trend is becoming normalized, falsely claiming to provide a pre-workout energy burst more quickly & intensely. While portrayed as ‘cool’, it can lead to serious health issues.
Real-life HAZARDS of dry scooping.
Though online fitness influencer videos that seek ‘clicks’ are often quite entertaining, dry scooping may lead to serious health issues. When you see others doing it all over your feed, you may look at it and think that it’s not only enticing but acceptable for you to do because you have seen the people you look up to for advice doing the same, but that is far from the truth.
Choking. Pre-workout products are very fine and can be easily inhaled or aspirated into the lungs.
Caffeine overload. Consuming undiluted pre-workout powder quickly can cause a reaction similar to a panic attack – racing heart, dizziness, jitters, and increased blood pressure.
Cardiovascular stress & caffeine addiction, which becomes a dangerous ongoing stimulant cycle, posing continued exposure to these health hazards.
Are ALL viral fitness influencers QUALIFIED to give advice? Absolutely NOT! Whether you’re a high-level athlete or even just a beginner working on getting yourself into the gym, oftentimes, you’ll find yourself scrolling online, looking for the latest fitness advice. However, not all online advice is reliable. Pay attention to the source relaying the new information, consider the motivation, and search for credentials to ensure qualifications. Do your research!
Safe fitness choices are a PERSONAL responsibility.
Whether navigating a new piece of gym equipment or preparing a tasty pre-workout powder, reading & following instructions is critical. Be sure to mix the pre-workout powder with the correct amount of water and consume only the recommended serving size. Also, never combine it with an energy drink.
Fitness goals are attainable, just make sure the products you choose work to your advantage!
