Calorie Explosion“, of the popular series of fitness DVDs,The Firm, offers a pretty decent opportunity to get a well rounded workout in the comfort of your own home. Taught by a woman named, Allison, the workout is broken in to four parts which one could do separately or all at once.  There are three really good segments “Kick-Butt Athletic Drills”, “Explosive Power Moves”, and “High Intensity Moves” which are filled with exercises that the regular fitness enthusiast can both do and be challenged by. The instructor sticks with basic moves, but uses plyometrics to make them challenging.

The fourth segment called  “Cardio Kickboxing” was downright goofy though. Of course, I competed as a full-contact kickboxer for a long time so my standards are higher than most. But, the sad truth is that the instructor clearly has no knowledge of kickboxing skills and this segment doesn’t produce. It is lame at best, embarrassing at worst.

Overall, I would be pleased if one of my clients used this DVD for a guided exercise session while training on their own. It’s not super hard like an “Insanity” video, but it is a solid training tool. If you’re at a beginner or intermediate fitness level, give Calorie Explosion a try!
