Are you unsatisfied with your usual running workout? We’re human and it’s a natural habit that we adapt to routines. Think about it, our daily lives revolve around a set schedule. From the moment we wake up, we’ve got structure to our day. That doesn’t mean our workouts should too. If you want better or different results, you’re going to have to take the routine out of your running.

Here are some adjustments that can add variety to your ordinary running pattern:

Change the scenery: Choosing new routes can be mentally beneficial, because your mind will see it as a new adventure. Use your new surroundings as a  source of motivation – can’t wait to see what’s around that next corner!
Hills: Challenging inclines and declines work your muscles in a new way. Requiring more energy than running on a flat surface, running hills builds strength and burns more calories too.
Make it a game: Get a friend and set up a race, or even a relay race. Grab a football or Frisbee and toss it around. Lots of running, lots of fun and a great way to get your entire family active outside.
Power up your legs: Aside from your runs, add some exercises to build lower body strength and stamina. Do some squats, lunges, and even single leg training. Check out the video below for some ideas.

Changing things up will help you avoid plateaus. Spice things up and you’ll soon see positive changes in your performance and appearance!
