The fitness world loves a trend.

One week it’s ice baths.
The next week it’s fasted cardio.
Then, suddenly, everyone’s detoxing, dry scooping, or buying a $400 recovery device they saw on TikTok.

And look, not every trend is bad. But a lot of them are way more hyped than they deserve.

Here are five fitness trends that are getting way too much credit right now, and what actually matters instead.

1. Cold Plunges for Fat Loss

Cold plunges look intense. They feel hardcore. They make great content.

But are they melting fat like people claim? Not really.

Yes, your body burns a few extra calories trying to stay warm. But it’s not enough to make a meaningful difference in your body composition. You’re not going to out-ice-bath poor eating habits or inconsistent training.

Cold plunges can:

  • Help with soreness (sometimes)

  • Give you a mental toughness boost

  • Feel refreshing

But they’re not some secret fat-loss weapon.

If you enjoy them, keep doing them. Just don’t treat them like they’re magic.

2. Fasted Cardio as a “Fat-Burning Hack”

This one refuses to die.

The idea is that if you do cardio on an empty stomach, you’ll burn more fat. And technically, in the moment, your body may rely slightly more on fat for fuel.

But here’s the part people skip: what matters most is your total calorie balance over time.

If you’re in a calorie deficit, you’ll lose fat.
If you’re not, you won’t.

Fasted cardio isn’t superior. It’s just cardio.

If you like it, great. If it makes you feel lightheaded and miserable, eat something. The “hack” isn’t timing — it’s consistency.

3. Detox Teas & Cleanses

Every few months, a new “reset” shows up promising to:

  • Flatten your stomach

  • Eliminate toxins

  • Kickstart weight loss

Let’s be honest.

Most detox teas just make you go to the bathroom.

Your liver and kidneys already detox your body 24/7. That’s literally their job. You don’t need a $60 tea to “cleanse” yourself.

If you feel lighter after a detox, it’s usually:

  • Water loss

  • Less food volume

  • Less sodium

Not fat loss.

Real change doesn’t come from a 3-day cleanse. It comes from consistent habits. If you really want to lose weight and keep it off, use The Exact Formula!

4. Overcomplicated Workout Splits

There’s this growing belief that you need the most advanced, perfectly periodized, hyper-specific split to make progress.

Meanwhile, people aren’t even hitting the basics.

You don’t need:

  • A 7-day specialized muscle split

  • 18 isolation exercises per session

  • A different program every 3 weeks

You need:

  • Progressive overload

  • Good form

  • Recovery

  • Consistency

The basics are not sexy. But they work.

If your program is so complicated that you can’t stick to it, it’s not advanced, it’s unnecessary.

5. Expensive Recovery Gadgets

Red light masks. Percussion guns. Normatec boots. Infrared blankets.

Recovery has become a luxury industry.

Do some of these tools help? Sure.
Are they required for progress? Absolutely not.

Most recovery still comes down to:

  • Sleep

  • Nutrition

  • Hydration

  • Smart training

You can’t biohack your way out of 4 hours of sleep and poor habits.

The Real “Secret”

Here’s what’s actually powerful (and unfortunately not viral):

  • Lift consistently.

  • Move daily.

  • Eat mostly whole foods.

  • Sleep 7–9 hours.

  • Stay patient.

It’s not dramatic.
It’s not flashy.
It doesn’t sell well.

But it works.

Fitness isn’t about chasing the newest trend. It’s about doing the simple things long enough for them to compound.

And honestly? That’s way more impressive than any ice bath.
