Working out in your living room can now be entertaining with the introduction of Virtual Reality (VR). Instead of staring at a wall and being in the same room, you can travel to any environment and exercise.

Why It Works

VR is tricking your brain into exercising. When an individual is playing a VR fitness game, their mind is focused on hitting or dodging targets. This is called lowering perceived effort because individuals forget they are working out. As a result, people will be able to burn more calories without feeling as tired.

Benefits

  • VR is fun. Feels like a video game rather than a task.
  • VR is private. People can be as intense or have as much fun as they want at home without worrying about anyone watching them.
  • VR can track results.

Downsides:

  • VR headsets can be expensive.
  • People can feel dizzy when first trying VR.
  • Need adequate space to move around to prevent knocking over or hitting any objects.

Overall

VR is a great and different way to get yourself moving if you don’t like exercising. Although it can’t replace heavy lifting, it is an amazing tool for cardio and weight loss. An individual’s daily workout will turn into a journey they are excited to explore.
