Ryan Reynolds is well-known for being in great shape. With roles in Blade Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Smokin’ Aces, and Green Lantern … it’s easy to see that he puts a lot of effort into keeping himself fit. The Green Lantern pushed Reynolds to great heights, which resulted in the 6’2″ actor weighing 200 pounds with only eight percent body fat throughout the filming process. According to his trainer, Bobby Strom, Reynolds trained 90 minutes a day, seven days a week, and never did the same workout twice. In an interview with Examiner.com,  Strom tells readers how Ryan Reynolds was able to get in his great shape.

On how Reynolds was able to workout everyday for seven plus months … Each day Reynolds would work opposing muscles so that the muscles worked the day before would have a chance to recuperate. That, and a combination of yoga, Pilates, or kickboxing kept his training from getting redundant for the seven to ten months he was following the program and provided alternatives when his body was too worn out to lift weights.

On Reynolds’ diet… Strom tells The Examiner, “I cooked for him six days a week.” His diet consisted of low fat meats like ground bison, turkey, salmon and brown rice. Little to no salt or sugar was added to his dishes to keep his body from producing more fat than necessary.

On his motivation in his workouts and his life, Reynolds says “I’ve always felt if I don’t just have a knack for it, I will just out-discipline the competition if I have to– work harder than anyone else.”

Bobby Strom goes on to advise people that having a body like Ryan Reynolds should be more of a model for success rather than a specific goal. He’s right! We should be emulating the passion and drive that Reynolds has for bettering himself, and use that to achieve whatever fitness goals we have set. Not even Reynolds could keep up this type of training forever, but more importantly he achieved a fitness goal. Strom says it best, “achieve what you can achieve and be OK with that. If everybody could look like Ryan. it wouldn’t be anything special.”
