Sam Worthington, star of Clash of the Titans 2 and the upcoming thriller The Debt (in theaters August 31), graces the cover of the September issue of Men\u2019s Health <\/a>(on newsstands August 9) and opens up about his dramatic transformation from an obscure, homeless Australian to the star of Avatar, the highest-grossing movie of all time.<\/p>\n

What it took to find success:<\/strong> \u201cA shitload of hard work. It wasn\u2019t as if I woke up one day and was doing movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

On acting being a vocation: <\/strong>\u201cUltimately that\u2019s what it is. A job. A wonderful job that I\u2019d never put down and I\u2019m extremely lucky to have. But it\u2019s a job.\u201d<\/p>\n

His blue-collar upbringing: <\/strong>\u201cI didn\u2019t know any different. And when you\u2019re young, you\u2019re not aware of the sacrifices your parents are making.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deciding whether to drive back from the mountains to Sydney for the Avatar audition:<\/strong> \u201cI worked out if it was worth spending the gas money, and decided that it probably was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why he ditched his partying lifestyle:<\/strong> \u201cIt didn\u2019t matter if I\u2019d been drinking all night; I\u2019d still be there at 6 a.m. But that doesn\u2019t work now, and it certainly didn\u2019t work on Avatar.\u201d<\/p>\n

Getting older:<\/strong> \u201cThey say that in your 20s you\u2019re trying to work out the man that you want to be, and in your 30s you discover who he is. And warped and all, beer gut and all, brain damage, and all, you just kind of go, \u2018Well, this is it, and I might as well try to polish it a tiny bit.\u2019 I\u2019m stuck with who I am, but I can be man enough to iron out the creases.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taking a break from acting: <\/strong>\u201cI haven\u2019t taken a break in four years. It\u2019s been a nomadic existence. Now it\u2019s time to enjoy the fruits of my labor for a little bit\u2026I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll be gone for long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Welcoming criticism:<\/strong> \u201cIf I\u2019m given a negative review, then I\u2019ll take that and work harder. You just have to get through anything that\u2019s irrelevant or a personal attack, and you might find the gold nugget that can take you to the next level and closer to what you want to achieve in life.\u201d<\/p>\n
