Jessica Alba<\/strong> may be best know for her beauty, but with countless new projects, she\u2019s more determined than ever to prove that she’s more than just a pretty face.\u00a0As the September cover-model for\u00a0Lucky<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>magazine, she opened up<\/em> about being a sex symbol, shaping up post-baby, trying not to be the perfect mom and playing a superhero mom in\u00a0Spy Kids: All the Time in the World <\/em>in 4D out August 19th. <\/span><\/p>\n

Highlights from the interview<\/strong>: <\/span><\/p>\n

On trying not to be the perfect mom<\/strong>: \u201cI get obsessed with how to make her life as perfect as I can, which means allowing her to make mistakes and act nuts.”<\/span><\/p>\n

On her meal plan to shape up after the baby<\/strong>: \u201cI have a hard time with portion control, so I have 1,200 calorie meals delivered. But I also work out, so basically I\u2019m starving\u2014it sucks. I drink a lot of water.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On her post-baby workout<\/strong>: \u201cWorking out everyday for even just 45 minutes is good for my mental state. But getting dresses and actually doing it is the worst. It\u2019s hard to get motivated.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

On why she likes to be distracted at the gym<\/strong>: \u201cIn the gym, I have like five things to distract me: TV, iPod, magazines. Workout partners are good, too, so you can chat and not just drown in your own misery. Sorry, does that sound bad? I just hate working out.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
\nOn being considered a sex symbol<\/strong>: \u201cI\u2019ve never been perceived as anything but a a sex symbol, so I don\u2019t even know what that means!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On suing Playboy for putting her on the cover without her permission<\/strong>: \u201cPlayboy isn\u2019t bad; it\u2019s just not me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On her sexy Campari calendar she shot wearing heels and a bathing suit<\/strong>: \u201cIt got people talking, besides, it\u2019s not like my boobies were out or my bum was showing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On her career goal after the sexiness wears off<\/strong>: \u201cI\u2019ve kept my future in mind, I wasn\u2019t going to be a flash in the pan. I want my career to last a long time.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

On playing superheroes<\/strong>: \u201cI pretended to be a superhero when I was a kid,\u201d says Alba who plays a superhero mom in her upcoming movie\u00a0Spy Kids<\/em>. \u201cI thought, if boys can do it, I can do it, and I can do it better.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On being strong-willed<\/strong>: \u201cThere\u2019s a video of me when I\u2019m three, saying \u2018This is a woman\u2019s world, and I don\u2019t need a man for nothin\u2019!\u2019\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

On her first big audition<\/strong>: \u201cWe all went out for it\u2014my mom, my auntie, her four kids, my auntie\u2019s boyfriend, my brother and I all sardined inside our Buick Regal. That\u2019s how we rolled back then.\u201d Once there, she was asked to list any acting experience. \u201cI lied and said I’d done plays,\u201d she says, smiling. \u201cMy mom definitely taught me how to hustle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On looking back at her journey as an actress<\/strong>: \u201cWhy am I here? Sheer will and determination, dammit…And I hustled like crazy.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n
