{"id":53827,"date":"2015-10-07T19:23:16","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T00:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fitzness.com\/blog\/?p=53827"},"modified":"2015-10-07T19:23:19","modified_gmt":"2015-10-08T00:23:19","slug":"amazing-weight-loss-how-sonya-wooten-lost-52-pounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fitzness.com\/blog\/amazing-weight-loss-how-sonya-wooten-lost-52-pounds\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazing Weight Loss: How Sonya Wooten Lost 52 Pounds!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sonya Wooten, 41, Customer Service Manager, Cincinnati, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How much weight have you lost?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>52 pounds and 9.5% Body Fat!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell us what the \u201cold you\u201d used to be like.<\/strong><br \/>\nI was a constant \u201cyo-yo\u201d of about 15 pounds. I would do what I had to do to lose<br \/>\na few pounds and then I would gain it right back. I hated being overweight but I<br \/>\ntold myself \u201cI\u2019m in my 30\u2019s and still look pretty good.\u201d I would reward my weight<br \/>\nloss with fast food\u2026 it was a constant cycle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What prompted your weight loss?<\/strong><br \/>\nI had just turned 40 in February and I planned a group pub crawl for St. Patrick\u2019s<br \/>\nDay. The entire length of the crawl was 1.5 miles. I had been having problems<br \/>\nwalking due to pinched nerves in my back and I was mortified when I couldn\u2019t<br \/>\neven make it to the first pub. I was looking for a bench like my 85 year-old<br \/>\nGrandma. I was so embarrassed that I had to take a cab to each of the locations,<br \/>\nbecause I couldn\u2019t walk them. The next day I told my husband \u201cI want to be 40<br \/>\nand fabulous not 40 and fat.\u201d My goal was to lose 40 pounds by my 41st birthday.<br \/>\nMy first motivation came from my chiropractor (which I went to right after the<br \/>\nembarrassing pub crawl incident). After I saw that I had 19 pinched nerves in my<br \/>\nback and that my weight was a contributing factor I immediately changed my diet<br \/>\nthe next day. I DID NOT do what I normally do which is \u201cI\u2019ll start on Monday\u2026\u201d I<br \/>\nthink I started on a Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you lose the weight?<\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s funny because that is a question I get a lot now. I always answer \u201cThe hard<br \/>\nway! Diet &amp; Exercise\u201d My best friend makes fun of me because when we go out<br \/>\nto eat, I order a \u201cdouble broccoli with broccoli on the side\u201d. Initially I started by<br \/>\neating better and limiting my calories to 1100-1300 per day, 60-70 carbs, and<br \/>\n70g protein. What helped me (which is a little boring and something I\u2019ve never<br \/>\ndone before) is that for the first four to five\u00a0months, I ate pretty much the exact same<br \/>\nthing every day because I knew how many calories, carbs, and proteins there<br \/>\nwere in the foods. I started making small changes in my activity and doing lots of<br \/>\nyard work at our new house. In January 2015, Fitz started her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/444461922392681\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hottie Body Fitzness<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/444461922392681\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Challenges<\/a> \u2013 which had me working out four to five\u00a0days a week!<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long did it take?<\/strong><br \/>\n18 months and I still want to lose seven more pounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was the hardest part?<\/strong><br \/>\nGetting my butt to the gym! I am NOT a morning person and going after work<br \/>\ngets me home pretty late.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Most fun part of your weight loss?<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are so many\u2026 the compliments obviously, but I also like seeing my body<br \/>\nchange. People are not only noticing my weight loss, but now they are noticing<br \/>\nthe definition and muscle I am building. I love when I can do something I couldn\u2019t<br \/>\ndo a month or a week ago \u2013 like burpees and jump roping. Oh! And shopping!!!<br \/>\nI\u2019ve had to purge my closet three times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Most rewarding experience?<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen I was able to walk the 1.5 miles that I couldn\u2019t walk the year before. Not<br \/>\nonly did I walk it, but I did a 5k that same morning and ran my most recent fastest<br \/>\nmile! He is my biggest fan and is constantly telling me how<br \/>\nproud he is of me. The What &#8211; When I think about the way I used to feel and see<br \/>\nold pictures of me\u2026 that\u2019s enough to keep me going. Trust me, I am not perfect<br \/>\nand have only lost 15 pounds this year, but I keep going. Today is the day I<br \/>\nworried about yesterday\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>How has this weight loss changed your life?<\/strong><br \/>\nI feel great and I have more confidence, but most importantly my cholesterol is<br \/>\ndown, I am off all my asthma medications, I found my lost love for running and<br \/>\nworking out, and I am able to do things I haven\u2019t been able to do in years. I<br \/>\nrecently planned a hiking trip for one of my friend\u2019s birthday \u2013 in the past, we<br \/>\nwould have gone out to dinner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have any advice for others who\u2019d like to lose weight?<\/strong><br \/>\nDon\u2019t give up, start again tomorrow, NOT Monday or next week. Plan ahead and<br \/>\nif you are doing all the right things progress will happen. Remember you didn\u2019t<br \/>\ngain all that weight overnight\u2026 so you aren\u2019t going to lose it overnight either.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your must-have fitness equipment.<\/strong><br \/>\nJump rope and fitness bands<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite training song:<\/strong><br \/>\nAhhhh\u2026 you\u2019re pulling out my inner nerd here. I actually listen to books from<br \/>\nAudible while I work out. LOL!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite healthy food:<\/strong><br \/>\nBalsamic portabella mushroom- grilled with quinoa and baby spinach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite not-so-healthy food:<\/strong><br \/>\nPanera chocolate chip cookies. Did you know there are 420 calories In. One.<br \/>\nCookie?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funniest \/ weirdest\/most awkward experience during your weight loss journey.<\/strong><br \/>\nHa ha ha\u2026 my first workout riding my new bike. I thought to myself \u201cwell Fitz has<br \/>\nus doing 10 miles on a bike, I can do that easy!!\u201d I almost died that day\u2026 LOL! I\u2019m<br \/>\npretty sure the neighbors thought they were going to have to come rescue the<br \/>\npoor girl who thought she could. I didn\u2019t even go four miles. When I pulled into the<br \/>\ndriveway, my husband thought he was going to have to call 911. Riding a real<br \/>\nbike and a stationary bike \u2013 Not the same thing\u2026 Not even close!!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Future goals:<\/strong><br \/>\nI want to lose 7 more pounds and then maintain that weight. I know that I will<br \/>\nhave to work at being thin and healthy; it does not come naturally to me.
