3rd Grader Justin Brewer ran 500 mile at Morning Mile.<\/p><\/div>\n

On Wednesday May 25th, hundreds of elementary and preschool kids hit the SkateStation FunWorks skating rink in Gainesville, Florida to celebrate a mind-blowing accomplishment. The tiny but mighty kids in Alachua County ran more than 55,000 miles in the 2010-2011 school year. It’s an extraordinary feat which only materialized because of a before-school fitness program called “The Morning Mile” which focuses on getting lots of little feet moving before school each day. To celebrate their awesome accomplishment, the Morning Milers first used their reward necklaces to gain free entry to the rink, and then they logged more miles (16 laps = one mile) skating to their favorite music.<\/p>\n

Children in attendance who ran more than 100 miles were acknowledged on center stage and awarded stylish drawstring gym bags donated by K-SWISS. Lots of kids logged over 100 miles this year, but one special\u00a0kindergartener, Kyle Brewer, ran 300. <\/strong>Amazing right? Yeah, he was just trying to keep up with his rock star brother, 3rd grader Justin Brewer, who completed 500 miles! <\/strong>Also recognized were several of the school Morning Mile Coordinators: Margarita Schweibert, Doug Jossi and Kathy Dyce accepted their K-SWISS gym bags along with lots of love and appreciation from both students and parents who adore the opportunity to get fit each day at school. All the skating students had a blast at the party and enjoyed more even more vigorous exercises like the limbo, races and red light green light.
