It is important to make good choices when it comes to your nutrition because a well-balanced diet has a significant impact on the way you look and feel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manage your stress-<\/strong> When faced with stress, whether it\u2019s an upcoming test or a fight with your roommate, the body\u2019s natural response is to release a hormone called cortisol.\u00a0 Cortisol has been proven to increase food cravings, especially those high in fat and simple sugars (AKA: junk food).\u00a0 This response of overeating leads to weight gain, particularly in the abdominal area, which has a higher concentration of cortisol receptors.\u00a0 Be aware of when you\u2019re getting stressed and try to fight your body\u2019s urge to overindulge.\u00a0 <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Get Moving- <\/strong>Try to incorporate exercise into your everyday routine.\u00a0 Walk or ride a bike to and from school.<!--more-->\u00a0Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Print out the group fitness schedule and post it on your fridge. Find a work out buddy to keep you motivated. Most of all get started and create a routine. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t drink your calories- <\/strong>\u00a0Drinking\u00a0can be a part of the college life and you may decide not to cut it out completely. However, but being mindful of what and how much you drink can make a huge difference in the battle with the freshman 15.\u00a0 The next time you order a drink keep the following facts in mind:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Bud light= 65 calories<\/li>\n<li>Blue Moon= 100 calories<\/li>\n<li>Sam Adams= 105 calories<\/li>\n<li>Margarita= 600-700 calories<\/li>\n<li>1 glass of champagne= 90 calories<\/li>\n<li>Many non alcoholic drinks can also be high in calories from sugar, so remember to read the lable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get started!<\/strong>\u00a0 Whether you\u2019re trying to lose the weight or just make sure you don\u2019t gain it, the first step is always the hardest.\u00a0 Once you create a routine and start seeing results there will be no turning back.
