Do I hit the gym to show that treadmill who is boss? Do I take a jog on the side of the road to flaunt my new fabulous running gear? OR.. Do I get all Dora Explorer and run through trails?\u00a0 Believe it or not, the surface you run on is crucial. Certain surfaces can help you stay injury free while still providing a tremendous workout&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trails<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unlike running on the road, running on trails allows your body to experience minimal impact.<\/li>\n<li>Because of the softer surfaces of grass and dirt which provide more &#8220;give&#8221;, trail running is ideal for longer runs.<\/li>\n<li>Running on trails is in fact tougher than roads, because of the uneven surfaces and ever-changing terrain. It will, however, make you that much stronger when it comes time to race on the pavement though.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Roads<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running on the road may be the one surface where you can run your fastest, but is also the surface that creates many issues for runners.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s the hardest, most unforgiving surface which can lead to a variety of impact injuries.<\/li>\n<li>Issues include: injury and pain in the shins, knees and other lower extremity parts of the body.<\/li>\n<li><strong>HINT:<\/strong> Try using roads for shorter and faster running days.
