\nHBO\u2019s Game of Thrones<\/i> season 3 just kicked off and the Kingslayer himself, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau,<\/b> appears on the May issue of Men\u2019s Health<\/i> magazine<\/a> (on sale nationwide on April 16). Coster-Waldau opens about his rise to success, how he plans to stay on top and why staying fit is essential for his profession.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nikolaj on why it took him a while to admit he wanted to be an actor: <\/b>\u201cI always wanted to be an actor, but I just never told anyone,\u201d he laughs. \u201cI had this superstition that if I said it out loud, it wouldn\u2019t come true.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0On his favorite movie, Once Upon a Time in A<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/span>merica<\/i><\/b>: \u201cHere I was growing up in a tiny village in Denmark,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd I\u2019m identifying 100 percent with this gangster from New York. And I think how amazing would it be to explore human behavior in that same way.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nikolaj on how sports are like acting: \u00a0<\/b>\u201cI love team sports,\u201d he says, \u201cand being in a movie [is like that]. If you\u2019re not good, you\u2019re going to pull everyone down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nikolaj on what years of auditioning taught him: <\/b>\u201cYou have to take control of the room,\u201d Coster-Waldau says. \u201cYou have to be sharp when the camera\u2019s rolling,\u201d he says. \u201cI want to be totally unselfconscious, like a child playing. I do as much prep as possible so I can lose myself for those seconds.\u201d
\n<\/span><\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span><\/span>On where he shines at the gym<\/b>: \u201cJesper (Coster-Waldau\u2019s trainer) is huge, so he wins anything involving serious lifting,\u201d says the actor. \u201cI win at tire flipping, though. I\u2019m pretty fast.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
