NEW YORK, N.Y. <\/b>\u2014 Nearly two decades ago, Katie Couric joined The Today Show<\/i>, and became America\u2019s Morning Show sweetheart. After a few bumps, and winding roads in her life, today Couric is the host of her very own daytime talk show, Katie<\/i>, and is happier and busier than ever. As More\u2019s<\/i> <\/a>February cover girl, Couric shares how she found light at the end of the tunnel<\/a>. The issue hits newsstands on Tuesday, January 22nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

On being surprised that she isn\u2019t remarried: \u201cIt\u2019s actually surprising to me that it has been almost 15 years and I haven\u2019t remarried.<\/b> I think life is more fun when you have someone in your life. And I always wanted a father figure\u00a0 for my daughters, but it hasn\u2019t worked out that way. I\u2019ve had long-term relationships, but they haven\u2019t turned into life-long partners.\u201d<\/p>\n

On thinking she\u2019d turn out like Florence Henderson on The Brady Bunch<\/i><\/b>:\u201cI really did love my husband a lot, but after Jay died, I always thought I\u2019d end up like Florence Henderson on The Brady Brunch<\/i>,\u201d Couric says, meaning she dreamed of uniting her family with a man\u2019s.<\/p>\n

On being compared to Samantha on \u2018Sex and the City\u2019 by her daughter: <\/b>Her younger daughter {Carrie} tried to console her after having a huge decline in her likeability rating while at CBS Evening News<\/i>. \u201cMom, you know what Samantha on Sex and the City <\/i> says?\u201d Carrie asked. \u201cIf I listened to what every bitch in New York City says about me, I\u2019d never leave the house.\u2019\u201d Couric remembers laughing and telling Carrie, \u201cThere is so much wrong with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

On experiencing failure at CBS Evening News<\/i>: <\/b>Couric referred to the experience as, \u201can affront to my whole sort of mien.\u201d<\/p>\n

On her decision to wear her wedding ring around her neck, after her husband, Jay Monahan passed away from colon cancer:<\/b> \u201cI needed to have a piece of my husband with me,\u201d she says. \u201cI wasn\u2019t doing it for sympathy. Or maybe I did. I was just trying to make it through, and it was hard to be on television again and interview [Secretary of State] Jim Baker or go to the weather with Al Roker.\u201d<\/p>\n

On revealing her struggle with bulimia on Katie<\/i>:<\/b> \u201cI [was] asking people to reveal their innermost feelings about [this issue], and I actually know about it. I have had this issue; my sister Emily who passed away, had this issue. So I thought, \u2018this is the time.\u2019 I tried to do it in a way that wasn\u2019t, \u2018I had bulimia!\u2019 But just \u2018I had bulimia, and I know this mind game that goes on where if you don\u2019t adhere to this strict calorie restriction, it makes you feel really bad about yourself, and this vicious cycle kicks in.\u201d<\/p>\n

On why she thinks her bulimia story was picked up by gossip outlets:<\/b> \u201cI had no idea it would be a big bulletin,\u201d Couric says. \u201cBut I think it got traction because in a way people see me as somebody who has their shit together<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the backlash from her highly publicized Hurricane Sandy Tweets: <\/b>Which read, \u201cNow watching Diners Drivers and Dives. Good times.\u201d <\/b>The tweet resulted in nasty tweets back: She says people tweeted back, \u201cYou insensitive bitch. People are suffering.\u201d \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have sent that,\u201d Couric says, \u201cbut I was just communicating as someone who was holed up. I later apologized because I actually think I am a very empathetic, caring person. <\/b><\/p>\n

On Being Compared to a Kennedy and Feeling Alone: <\/b>\u201cI remember someone saying, \u2018You\u2019re like the Kennedys,\u2019\u201dCouric felt like an alien after her older sister Emily, died of pancreatic cancer, three years after her husband: \u201cIt\u2019s these parallel universes when someone you live is sick. Your world is this completely foreign place involving radiation and tumor marker. Outside, people are buying sweaters.\u201d<\/p>\n

On her dating history and what\u2019s she\u2019s learned:<\/b> \u201cI have had dates where we didn\u2019t click,\u201d Couric says. \u201cI once went out with a heart-transplant surgeon who talked about valves the whole night. But I appreciate that it\u2019s not easy to go out on a date with someone like me. Also, when you get to my age, everyone is a bit wounded. So I think it\u2019s important to handle people with care-not to think, \u201cOh, what a terrible date,\u201d but just, \u2018This person isn\u2019t for me.\u201d Everyone has a lot of baggage. It\u2019s just can you fit it into the overhead bin?\u201d<\/p>\n

Couric on fame safeguarding her: <\/b>\u201cUntil I was 40, I had smooth sailing and no real challenges in my life, no setbacks. I felt that my charmed life and being on television protected me from bad things happening. It was so ridiculous and irrational.\u201d<\/p>\n

On believing pain is like a drug:<\/b> \u201cI have become slightly inured,\u201d she says.\u00a0 \u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean if something else bad happened to me I wouldn\u2019t suffer. It\u2019s just that your threshold for suffering increases.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two years after Monahan died, Couric threw singles parties:<\/b> \u201cWe insisted that every woman bring two male friends,\u201d Kathleen Lobb, a college friend recalls. I went out with a couple of people. I don\u2019t think Katie did.\u201d
