Oxygen has a lot to do with energy production, so without it, the &#8220;oomph&#8221; factor isn&#8217;t as strong as it potentially could be. If you don&#8217;t smoke, keep it up. If you do smoke and plan on continuing to do so, well, know that you&#8217;re not doing EVERYTHING in your power to perform your best when it comes to your fitness.<\/p>\n<p>According to Australian sports physiologist David Pyne,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Smoking increases the heart rate for a given level of exercise<\/li>\n<li>Smoking also causes chronic swelling of the mucous membranes, which makes it harder to breathe<\/li>\n<li>The heart has to work harder to compensate for less amounts of oxygen reaching muscles<\/li>\n<li>Endurance is cut short, so you can&#8217;t work out for as long as you would as if you were a non-smoker<\/li>\n<li>Individuals who smoke are statistically less likely to stick to their exercise program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Fitzness\/218599521492381?ref=ts\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11046\" title=\"facebookButton\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitzness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/facebookButton4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reference: http:\/\/www.nsma.org.au\/facts\/fitness.htm<br \/>\n<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IgP2Ib8ug78\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Simply put, smoking decreases fitness levels by reducing the amount of oxygen available in the body.
