Chris Pine, if beauty were time, you’d be eternity.

An early birthday gift to all of you summer babies, these ocean blue eyes and thick luscious locks are on the cover of the June issue of Men’s Health. The 32-year-old Star Trek Into Darkness and Jack Ryan star, gives Men’s Health the inside scoop on some of his biggest fears, his old high school days, and blowing his first Star Trek audition before nailing the second one. Not to mention, he reveals his sensitive side. Yes, he is sensitive too. Some men really do just have it all!

Highlights from the interview:

Hitting the gym: “I work out because that’s my job. What I enjoy about it, beyond the vanity, is the Zen of it. I like getting out of my head: One great way is to sweat your face off. I appreciate that if you’re thinking of anything else, you’re not working intensely enough.”

His unusual acting gig on CSI: Miami: “I played a really creepy sociopath who strangled his girlfriend during sex,” he says. The experience was better for Pine than for the cadaver. “I kind of loved it,” he says. “Once I let go of resistance and leaned in, I thought, ‘Yep, this job definitely rocks.’ ”

Number one fear: “Mediocrity scares me,” he says. “It’s the fear of not being as good as you want to be. If you give over to that fear, it will sabotage you. As much as I can, I try to use that fear to guide me.”

His not so star-ish audition for Star Trek: “As badly as you can imagine, Pine says.”

A shocking callback for Star Trek : “When you want something enough, it brings out primal emotions,” he says. “You get into this place of ‘must happen, must happen.’”

On what’s in store for Star Trek into Darkness: “Much more action; much, much more intensity; and a lot more fighting.” In a couple of words? “Seriously epic,” he says.

Not your average high school quarterback, an outsider growing up: “Just looking at a girl felt awkward. Pine goes on to say, “When you feel like an oddball, it never really leaves you. Even now, I’m better around people who are uncomfortable with themselves, the misfits.

Following his father’s footsteps in acting: “Acting was work for him. It was a job. I always thought there was something great about that. Almost like you’re working in a bank. You don’t get carried away with yourself.”

On being mentored by Alec Baldwin: “I was transparent in my desire to be mentored. ‘Please give me sage wisdom,’ I’d say. Alec just took me by the shoulders and said, ‘Do it,’ which to me meant ‘Jump in, dive in, take it. Smile and laugh. Grab it, chew it.’”

PLUS:
Motto: “Just get in there and get dirty.”

Hero: “My father. He leads with his heart. I have a memory of us fishing. It could be f-ing miserably boring, but he was totally invested in what this experience was going to be for me. His absolute dedication to my interest is what moves me when I look back on it.”

Last website he recommended to a friend: “Truthout.org.”

Cooking to impress a girl: “Steak: Sear the meat to create a few nice lines. Know how long to grill it so you only have to flip it once.”

His sensitive side: “I cry all the time—at work, at the shrink’s, with my lady. The Notebook killed me. “Up” destroyed me. “Up” was like the animated Amour.”

Well, Chris Pine, if you’re a bird, I’m a bird…..

Don’t miss out on the June issue of Men’s Health!!

“Feels like the crowd is sayin’.. Gimmie Gimmie MORE”

Think you’ve had enough of Britney? Think again! This 31-year-old pop star is back for MORE as she reveals her upcoming Vegas performance this fall and the underlying details to how she managed to get in the best shape of her life for the Planet Hollywood theater engagement. That’s right, I said Vegas baby! Spears has stepped her game up to prepare for the upcoming two-year residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, which is rumored to be one nonstop party!

Dying to know how to get a nonstop-party-Vegas-Britney-body too? Don’t worry, I’m getting there!

Shape Magazine

“The Vegas performances won’t be simple—they’ll be a massive party from start to finish. And to pull this off, I have to be in top condition and running at full speed.” – Spears tells SHAPE magazine

“I’m doing 90 minutes of yoga twice a week in addition to a lot of cardio; hour-long sessions three times a week with my trainer, Tony Martinez”

Martinez looks to add diversity to Britney’s workouts by constantly mix things up. Tony Martinez’s website shared four exercises he likes to spontaneously throw at her :

-Basketball jump shot against the wall (20 times)
-Backwards interval walking on a treadmill at 2.0mph for one minute followed by walking forward for one minute
-Balancing on one leg and then with one arm doing medicine ball slams
-Bicycle and rotate on the floor mat for abs (20 times)

The star keeps her everyday diet in check by following the Nutisystem program, where she mostly sticks to a shake for breakfast and lunch, followed by protein and veggies for dinner.

Not convinced? Need to see it to believe it? Check out the cover of SHAPE magazines June issue where she sports a white bikini. You’ll be running to your gym’s yoga class straight from work! Yes – run to the gym, don’t drive. Running and yoga is a great combo.

Along with the plans for the shows, Britney is also working to finish her eighth studio album, which Will.I.Am of The Black Eyed Peas is said to be producing. BIG THINGS to come for the infamous Britney Spears, what can ya say folks?… Oops, she did it again!

Looking for a way to get your kids off to a healthier lifestyle?

Fitness dice have been a HIT at birthday parties, in classrooms (teachers LOVE to use fitness dice before recess or lunch with their kids) , and right at home!

Activities on die include: jumping jacks, push ups, hop on one foot, toe touch, arm circles and leg lifts

Repetitions on second die are: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12.

It could not be easier; roll the dice and watch the fun begin.

Perhaps you don’t want to spend the money? So, why not get creative? Make your own fitness dice! Simply get out two small or large-sized boxes, and write the activities/repetitions on each side. Hey, why not change the activities up while you’re at it.

It’s time to make exercise fun for your kids, and don’t be afraid to join in!

Mike May, age 51 , Wellington, Florida. Publicist/Communications Specialist in the sports & fitness industry

What inpsires you participate in so many activities? I am passionate about sports and physical activity.

Do you compete in any of these activities? I compete in every activity that I play. I am either competing against the clock, my previous best performances, or against opponents.

Have you lost any weight doing it? By being active, my weight stays in the area of 195 pounds.

Most challenging aspect you face: Being mentally focused throughout an activity is the most challenging aspect. When I am mentally focused, I perform well during the athletic experience.

Most fun aspect of it all: I love to run, jump, twist, turn, and perspire. I love the feeling of perspiration on my forehead.

Most rewarding aspect: The sheer joy of being active is the most rewarding aspect of any activity in which I engage.

Who/what inspires you when you’re feeling weak? When I am feeling weak, the knowledge that I am alive, healthy, and not disabled is enough of an inspiration for me.

Advice for others who’d like to get started: Pursue an athletic activity that gives you fun, joy, pleasure, and puts a smile on your face. At the end of the athletic experience, and should create an interest in going back again and again and again.

Your must-have equipment for this activity: Tennis (a racquet and balls); golf (golf clubs, golf balls, and a bag); running (running shoes); basketball (a basketball and some good, quality basketball shoes); etc.

Favorite training song: I don’t have one and I don’t need one.

Favorite healthy food: Banana and blueberries

Favorite not-so-healthy food: Brownies and chocolate chip cookies

Funniest /weirdest/most awkward experience doing your activity: Having the soul of my golf shoe become detached during a round of golf with business associates.

It’s nearly 21% of total U.S. health care costs.

2. 105% — According to a study conducted by the Brookings Institution, this is the increased amount that obese Americans pay for prescription drugs compared to individuals who aren’t obese.

3. $3.4 billion – Cars are burning around 938 million gallons of gasoline per year more than they would if Americans weighed what they did in 1960.

4. $164 billion — The Society of Actuaries estimates that U.S. employers are losing this amount in productivity each year due to obesity-related issues with employees.

7. $14.3 billion — This is how much childhood obesity costs the U.S. each year, according to a published study from the Brookings Institution. (We at Fitzness, think having the Morning Mile in every school would obliterate this number.)

9. $66 billion — Columbia University researchers say that if current trends don’t change, annul obesity-related medical costs in the U.S. could increase this amount by 2030.

10. $580 billion — The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation predicts that annual economic productivity loss due to obesity could hit this staggering amount by 2030 unless the current situation changes.

“These are bills that we can’t afford to pay,” said Jim Baugh, founder of PHIT America, a cause designed to create a Movement for a Fit and Healthy America. “PHIT America has solutions to helping the U.S. overcome the obesity epidemic. It all starts with regular physical activity and getting daily PE back in schools. You will soon read about new eye-opening research findings that lack of exercise is the main culprit in startling rise of childhood obesity.

Plus, PHIT America’s website – www.PHITAmerica.org – has a Participation Database for the general public, which offers ways to become active and fit in more than 50 different sports or fitness activities. It’s as simple as ‘putting play in your life every day.’ Play a sport, join a team, or start going to a fitness class. Say goodbye to a sedentary lifestyle. Your life does depend on it!

Tipping the Scales

Another point worth making on the obesity topic is that 1 in 4 young adults cannot join the military because they are too overweight or obese, according to the recent military report Still Too Fat to Fight. The report also notes that TRICARE, the military’s health insurance system, is spending more than $1 billion a year on treating weight-related diseases.

Sadly, the state of obesity may get worse in this country before things improve. Even the fittest states are losing the obesity battle. Case in point: Colorado. The Rocky Mountain state’s adult obesity rate in 1995 was 13.9%. At the time, the worst state was Mississippi, with an obesity rate of 19.4%. Today, Colorado is still the fittest state, but its adult obesity rate stands at 20.7% — higher than the worst state less than 20 years ago.

The PHIT America Solution

Brazilian-born actor and singer, Meital Dohan has a lot going on. Besides her role on “Weeds”, she’s launching her music career here in the States. Reminds me a bit of Lady Gaga, but still has her own thing going on. Meital took some time for a Fitzness interview so she could give us a little insight on how she stays fit to perform.

You have a new single coming out? Yes, it’s an alternative dance song, called “Give Us Back Love”, produced by DJ Reflex. My last release was “On ya” which was a collaboration with Sean Kingston. He’s really sweet, smart and talented. It was nice to work with him.

You’re scantily clad in your videos, what do you do to stay fit? Well, I was an Elite swimmer as a kid; my best stroke was Freestyle. I love to mix my workouts up now though, because I get bored easily. My workouts during each week are very different. On different days I run 4 miles, see a trainer, do a ballet-inspired workout, gyrotonics, and Pilates.

Do you eat well? I have some allergies, so I avoid soy, gluten and dairy. It’s hard to do, since everybody seems to put cheese in everything.

Any summer plans? This summer I’m headed to St. Barts. It’s my favorite place, because it’s quiet and gorgeous.

Do you do water sports while you’re there? Not yet, but maybe I’ll try that soon.

Do you smell what The Rock is cookin’!? Well, Marky Mark sure does. Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson go back to their roots to prepare for their recently released film, Pain & Gain, where the two play drug-abusing bodybuilders.

“Once I signed on for doing the movie, I was committed to getting as big as possible. That just meant going back to doing what I used to when I was really young, lifting as heavy as possible and eating 10-12 meals a day.” – Mark Wahlberg tells bodybuilding.com

This action comedy is based on a true story about a group of bodybuilders known as the “Sun Gym Gang” who, in the pursuit of the American Dream, commit to murdering, kidnapping, or torturing anyone who stands in their way.

Attention all men: this perhaps is not the GREATEST movie choice for a first date…

“For a movie like this, that revolves around the world of bodybuilding and the culture of bodybuilding—that we love, by the way, and that we

grew up on—the prep was a good 8-10 weeks, six workouts per week, training twice per day. I did my cardio in the morning.” – The Rock
Wahlberg told E! News, “I was eating 10 meals a day and drinking mass gainers…It was a lot of work. A lot of getting up at 2:00 in the morning to eat another meal and I was still full from the meal at 10 o’clock.”

So, how did Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg prepare for the role of two bad-ass bodybuilders? Let’s take a look shall we….

Congratulations Charlotte Sheets! She’s the winner of an awesome pair of Prospecs Power Walk Sneakers! She’s a big walker, it seems as she said in her entry, “my favorite walk is up to the fire lookout at the north side of Lake Tahoe. It’s about an hour round trip, straight up and then quick down. Quite the workout and quite the view at the top!” We’re so excited for you Charlotte. How about you send us a photo of you in your new shoes up by that fire! Thanks to everyone who entered, and thanks to Prospecs for sponsoring this great giveaway. Thanks for also sending along this great info today!

PROSPECS is a footwear company that wants people to take a stand against sitting. First ask yourself, how long have you been sitting today?
Some Scary Facts (and there are more where that came from…

The Average American sits for 9.3 hours a day and sleeps for 7.7 hours. Do you go from sitting at your desk to sitting on transportation to sitting on your couch? You might want to change that: http://visual.ly/sitting-killing-you

Regardless of sex, age and body mass, people over 45 who sat more than 11 hours a day had a 40 percent higher risk of dying within three years. http://archinte.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=1108810

Right after you sit down, the electrical activity in your muscles slows down and your calorie-burning rate drops to one calorie per minute.

Dr. Emma Wilmot found that people who sit for several hours a day have a two-fold increase in their risk of diabetes, heart disease, and death – even if they exercise

Why Walking Is a Great Solution

Walking puts less physical stress on the body – generally a runner lands on his feet with two to three times the impact of walking

99% of people have the fitness level to be able to walk

Walking for ten minutes three times a day is better than consecutive exercise at reducing blood pressure and improving plasma levels and insulin lipids

Walking burns 3-5 times the calories than sitting does.

It’s easy to incorporate into your day: instead of having that meeting at a table, take it to the streets or the hallways of your building, walk down the hall to speak with your coworker instead of emailing him/her, walk to work, and take the stairs.

Why PROSPECS is the sole-mate for those who want to Take a Stand

Whether you choose to stand at your desk or incorporate more walking into your day, PROSPECS have a Flubber insole for premium comfort and cushioning with technology that reduces aches and pains.

As a walking-specific shoe, PROSPECS will stablize you feet with their MoveFrame technology to prevent injury and correct technique for perfect biomechanical movement.

In this recently released film, Mud, the 43-year-old actor plays a Southern fugitive who is hiding on an abandoned island on the Mississippi River. When two teenage boys become friends with the fugitive, they help him evade the authorities and reunite him with his true love, a troubled woman played by the one and only, Reese Witherspoon!

To prepare for his role, McConaughey spent some alone time on a deserted island in Arkansas. “The only neighbors were a few snakes and two donkeys,” he told the New York Post newspaper. “It was pretty cool.”

Snakes? Cool!? He likes to break a sweat everyday through surfing, skateboarding, cycling, hill climbs, running outdoors and yoga.

McConaughey told Men’s Fitness, “When I work out, I like to run. If I see a tree, I’ll stop and do pull ups. Randomly, I’ll do push ups, too. And this is how I get the body I want!”

Well, Mathew McConaughey is more than welcome to do any pull up exercises on the trees in my front yard…

But wait, there’s more! Along with his outdoor hobbies, McConaughey keeps his fitness up year-round in the gym with the help of celebrity trainer, Gunnar Peterson. Gunnar Peterson incorporates a lot of circuit training in McConaughey’s workout routine, which includes short bursts of cardio. For example, with cardio he’d have him do something like 4 minutes on one machine, 5 minutes on another, 6 minutes on something else and then go 6, 5, 4. Peterson finds that people work harder when asked to train for short bouts of time. If he were to say, “go on that cardio machine for an hour,” his clients would take it easy and become bored.
