We’ve all got a bunch of odd things we do that may not make sense … but make us happier with our bodies. Well, Self Magazine has made a list of oddball tactics to get you leaner than you were before. Click here to see their list, and enjoy the few extra ideas I use to stay fit and trim as well below. Have some strange strategies too? Please share in the comment section!

  • Eat only one M&M at a time. Mindlessly tossing a handful of chocolate in your mouth is no more satisfying than enjoying one piece at a time. Trust me. Stick with this tactic and you’ll be satisfied with far fewer M&Ms thus consuming far fewer calories.
  • Destroy your dinner. If you’re truly satisfied after consuming the first half of your dinner or dessert, destroy (more…)

Marisa Tomei Core and Curves Video Review

Core and Curves

Core and Curves

I just completed Marisa Tomei’s Core & Curves workout DVD and found it … appropriate for “some”.  I’ll be honest, I wasn’t blown away by it and at some points I found it quite dull, but I like fitness fast and fun; this DVD had no chance with me. Having said that, I do believe it would be an appropriate workout for certain types of people! The workout is mild with some moderately challenging moves thrown in on occasion, the jazzy background music is kind of mellow and the  instructor’s style is super sleepy. I think I know a few folks who would love it though.

Are you someone who’s interested in a smooth yoga/pilates style training session with zero bouncing and zero noise from an energetic instructor? If so … this video with three short training segments (Body Definition, Best Legs Workout, and Ten Moves in Ten), which can be done together or on their own may be a perfect fit. It’s the sort of workout that will help a beginner gain strength and stability; not the type of workout that will melt away pounds.  Oh yeah!  The other reason for purchasing this workout DVD is to spend time with Marisa Tomei – she’s in the whole thing. Mouse Pad Stretch Program

G2Fit.com: Mouse-Pad Stretch Program

G2Fitness is a neat company that designs fitness equipment and other daily use products to enhance your fitness training experience. Yoga mats are a great tool, but if you really don’t have a strong grip on yoga moves … you’ll probably not get much use out of that mat. That’s where G2 Fitness has made it’s impact. The products are based on functionality and education. The yoga mats made by this company have a dozen or so moves illustrated on their mats to use as a point of reference. Neat – huh?

They’ve also used this innovation to enhance stability balls and mouse pads. I love it all, but the item I’ve chosen to feature is the Mouse-Pad Stretch Program. Why? Most low back pain is associated with poor posture, weakness and inflexibility. Many of us spend hours upon hours each day slumped over a desk bonking on our computer keyboards. A simple way to combat this issue? Regular stretching! It’s such an easy thing to do, but life often tends to get in the way and we forget. This mouse pad serves as both a terrific reminder and an instructional tool. Even I, the fitness pro, have been stretching more often since I’ve been using the mouse-pad G2 sent me. It actually works! (more…)

Pink Loves her “Man Abs” and Ranks her Body

Women's Health Magazine

Lorenzo Agius/Women’s Health

Resident bad-ass of the music biz, Pink, opens up to Women’s Health magazine in the January/February issue about love, competition, and most importantly, her workout routine.  While currently on tour in Europe, this ripped lady still manages to workout seven days a week—and it shows!  She recently lost 20 pounds!

On her “man abs…”

“My man abs? They’re pretty full-on. It’s like that D’Angelo video [for “How Does It Feel”]; he’s got that V. I get a lot of flak for it. That’s where the masculine thing comes in, people saying it’s not normal for a girl to have [those]. But I’m OK with it. I think it’s because I was a gymnast for eight years, from ages 4 to 12. My body was made before my bones were fully grown. Gymnasts are short, stocky, muscular powerhouses.”

How she stays fit on the road…

“Ever hear of P90X? My brother and his wife are both in the Air Force; they do marathons and triathlons. I went [to visit them and she’s doing P90X]. I couldn’t keep up with her—and she’d just had her first baby four weeks ago. I was like, This is bullshit! I will perfect this thing! So usually, I wake up and do an hour of cardio, then an hour of P90X or yoga, then a half-hour of warm-up [during show rehearsal]. I do that six days a week.”

Her day off… (more…)

Congratulations to the Powerhouse “Hit the Deck” Game Winner, Valerie!

powerhouse hit the deck game

Valerie Watson is the lucky winner of the Powerhouse “Hit the Deck” fitness game. She’ll get this cool tool to help keep her workouts well-rounded and fresh. The game includes a bunch of cards with exercise tutorials on each to keep her workouts remain varied and challenging. This game also comes with a timer, so all Valerie has to do is pick a card, set the timer, do the exercises for a specific amount of time (no counting necessary) and then move on to the next card.

In her entry, Valerie stated that if she could design her own cards she would include her favorite exercises ”walking lunges with hand weights, military push ups, tricep dips and front and side planks.” She also loves to stretch using yoga poses like down dog and pigeon. She thinks they look silly, but says they loosen her up in a jiffy! Enjoy your game Valerie!
