Chelsie Hightower, one of the professional dancers, appearing on “Dancing with the Stars”, was recently interviewed in Fitness magazine and shares more than one “celebrity” competitor would like. Ouch! Her quote from the September 10 issue is a stinger and her training routine is tough. Enjoy these excerpts!
On her dream Dance Partner:“Justin Timberlake would be awesome, but that might be reaching too high. I’d love to team up with a World Cup soccer player. I watched the games this summer and those guys are dope. They already have the drive, work ethic and some footwork, so it would be fun to dance with one of them.”
On her Most Challenging Partner, former Bachelor Jake Pavelka: “If you don’t have some sort of good (more…)
Hopefully you’ve already decided that the negatives outweigh the positives when it comes to sunburns and tanning. Wrinkles, cancer, splotchy skin, freckles, moles and premature death are simple reasons to avoid going outdoors unprotected. Having said that, giving up sunburns doesn’t mean you have to give up on glowing golden skin. In fact, the opposite is true. With an incredibly competitive industry blossoming, sunless tanners are better than ever. Bronzed Envy is a perfect example of the strides this industry has made, and has offered up a fabulous Bronzed Envy Home Tanning Kit so you can get a salon quality tan every day of the year in the comfort of your own home.
Trying these products out has been a joy as Bronzed Envy offers a complete line designed to give you a gorgeous glow. The line includes lovely scrubs and moisturizers, but at the heart of what matters most … the sunless tanners are amazing. My favorite is the “Bronzed Illusion” sunless tanning lotion. I like to use it on my face every few days to avoid having to wear too much makeup and it instantly makes my fair Irish skin look like it’s been to the beach for a week. The color is natural and the smell … unlike other sunless tanners, the scent of “Bronzed Illusion” is fantastic! It’s similar to a really mild orange creamsicle, which is something worth purchasing even if it didn’t offer a tan. The most popular Bronzed Envy product though is an aerosol spray called ”Tan in a Can”. Good stuff! (more…)
The Wiggly Circus is on tour in the U.S. right now and the once “regular” group is now ripped. Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt, Sam Moran and Paddy ( Paul Paddick, Captain Feathersword) are intense about more than just writing and singing great songs for children. They’re fanatical about their fans and hell-bent on knocking out mesmerizing shows year after year. This year, that ambition requires more than just dancing and tossing around massive pieces of inflatable “fruit salad” fruit. The Australian sweeties are standing on top of each other, flying through the air, and climbing poles as though they were really performing in Cirque du Soleil (See Video).
Who the heck do they think they are? The Wiggles - that’s who! There’s a reason they’re the most succesful children’s entertainment group in history. Their musical quality could compete with that of the Rolling Stones (you’d have to (more…)
Niecy Nash is a saucy comedic actor – turned hostess – turned dancer working her beloved “jiggly parts” off in every crook and cranny of television. She’s smart, sassy, funny and gave more info than I asked for when it came to her body, boys and bedroom etiquette. She also has a special assignment for you – it’s a surprisingly productive toilet flushing trick! You won’t want to miss that opportunity at the end of this interview.
Fitz: You went pretty far as a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars” which is a pretty athletic experience, has it changed your lifestyle at all?
Niecy: First of all, DWTS was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, and for the time, my eating habits had to change. See, I love, love, love to eat! But I found that if I ate the normal things that I usually love to eat, then I couldn’t dance the way I needed to. If I ate things like cheeseburgers, I’d become too full and too tired to perform. So I ended up having to redirect myself. I would still eat, but to keep my energy up I had to go with salads, protein and water instead of my normal choices to ensure I’d be able to do my best during the shows and rehearsals.
Fitz: Your body confidence is incredible! Where did you get it and what would you suggest to other women so they can feel as strongly about their bodies?
Niecy: My grandmother used to tell me, “Baby! When you’re the only naked woman in the room, you look good!” It’s true. You may not be exactly where you want to be physically, but you should love yourself today. If you don’t feel good about you, no one else will. It’s okay to to work on what you’ve got an try to get in better shape, but you have to be willing to love yourself in the meantime. Confidence is really sexy, and there isn’t anything worse than a rail thin woman, hula-hooping with a Cheerio, hiding her body because she doesn’t think she’s skinny enough. Skinny doesn’t make people happy; we have to choose to be happy. I choose to be happy. It’s probably easier to be a black woman (more…)
I recently spent some time chatting with Karissa Shannon, who is one of the twins who took over for Holly, Kendra and Bridget on “The Girls Next Door”. Karissa’s still pursuing reality TV but has also landed a role in the Sofia Coppola dramedy Somewhere. Excited by the opportunity to “break out and become famous” Karissa shares the scoop on her romantic affairs with Hef and how she stays trim.
Fitz: Is Somewhere your first movie? Tell me about your role.
Karissa: Yes, it was my first and I want to do a lot more! My sister and I play exotic dancers; I’m Cindy and she’s Bambi, but we didn’t get naked in the film. Our characters are super fun and playful.
Fitz: How did you get the role?
Karissa: They contacted us through Playboy PR. I’m really happy they did it too, cause my sister and I have always wanted to be famous. We started modeling with Playboy and then got to do a lot of TV with the “Girls Next Door” and now we’re trying movies. I’m like Yes! This is what I want to do. I’ll do them with my sister or branch off and do my own thing. But I want to be in a lot more movies.
Fitz: Have you taken acting classes to prepare for all of this?
Karissa: No, I haven’t. But I have a lot of experience from being on TV for a couple of years.
Fitz: How did you meet Hugh Hefner and become his girlfriend? (more…)
Today is the day that millions and millions of faithful Twilight fans sleep in, because like vampires … they were up at crazy hours of the night last night killing people. No, no, no. I mean, they were up watching the midnight premier of the new flick, Eclipse. Hopefully those fans weren’t gobbling up lots of popcorn and Goobers though, because to be like the vampires they so adore … they have to be fit! Ask Ashley Greene, who costars in this adored series with ripped heart-throbs Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz and female actress Kristen Stewart.
In an interview with Women’s Health magazine, Ashley tells of the pressure to be fit enough to do vampirey type things like running, flying and fighting. She says that she tends to bulk up really easily if she lifts weights too often, so while filming the movie in Vancouver, she focused on cardio, squats, and planks during her daily hour-long interval sessions. “I did side planks for my obliques, which are one of my trouble areas,” she says. “And traditional planks tone your back so you don’t have that little bit of fat hanging over your bra. Ugh!” Ashley even inspired squat contests among her female costars (”I’m a competitive little sucker,” she says with a laugh). She did add in a couple of nontraditional weight moves: working with kettlebells and pushing a big box filled with weights across a room. “My butt and legs were so sore!” (more…)
Reebok ZigTech sneakers are probably the coolest looking runners on the market right now. With their funky zigzag shaped sole and sharp colors, there’s no doubt you’ll be noticed (in a good way) with these kicks on your kickers. As far as looks go, they’re fun and can be completely customized to let you take them as far as you’d like to as a force of fitness fashion. Fun!
ZigTechs are also highly functional. As you’d imagine, since Reebok is one of the “big dogs” in the fitness industry … they don’t mess around when it comes to quality. These shoes provide all the necessary components of superb support, structure, breath-ability and flexibility. After a decade of competing as a full-contact kickboxer (barefoot) and about a million miles jogged as a fitness fanatic, my feet need 1st class care. Running in my bright silver and red ZigTechs has been incredibly comfortable and quite simply, issue-free. (more…)
Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis, better known as ”Charlotte” has apparently been hiding a killer six-pack underneath all of those demure dresses. In the May issue of FITNESS, on newsstands April 27th, Kristin reveals her secret to body confidence, dishes on SJP and dismisses those false Sex and the City rumors. On April 25th, Kristin will swap stilettos for sneakers when she hosts over 10,000 runners for the More/Fitness Women’s Half Marathon in Central Park. Go Kristin! Here are a few excerpts from her fun FITNESS interview.
Her secret to body confidence:
“I have hips!” she says. “I’m never going to be the thinnest actress, and I don’t want to be. When you’re at peace with yourself and your body, you’re automatically more confident.” To stay in shape, she alternates between hiking, yoga, Pilates and cardio, depending on her mood. “I can’t just hop on the treadmill,” admits Kristin, 45, who reprises her role as Charlotte in Sex and the City 2, which opens in theaters on May 28. “I need to mix things up and enjoy what I’m doing.”

This weekend I was honored by my beloved Alma mater, the University of Florida, and the College of Health and Human Performance with the Outstanding Alumni Award. I’d like to express great thanks to the great Gator Nation and to all of those in my incredible college who make amazing strides each day towards a healthier and fitter society.
I’m fortunate in that I receive rewards on a daily basis. My traditional awards come in the form of healthier people happier in their stronger leaner bodies. My heart is full of gold medals where that is concerned – I’m one lucky lady. Having said that … being recognized by the University of Florida, where I learned to take my skills instructing fitness and form them in to the profession of my dreams is an incredible honor. So thank you Orange. Thank you Blue. I will continue to work hard to make you proud.
