You want to keep your kids fit and healthy, however getting them off the couch and away from electronic devices and the TV can be difficult. Food plays a major role in keeping kids healthy, but exercise is also extremely important. Fortunately, getting exercise can be fun, and the more fun it is, the more likely your kids are to want to keep doing it. Here are three fun activities that are great exercises for your kids.
Activity days cover a wide variety of things, while you disguise exercise by focusing on active entertainment. You can get your kids active and moving without them really realizing that they are in fact “exercising”. There are activities like zip lining that are a lot of fun for both kids and adults. There are also other fun activities like climbing, horse riding or perhaps an obstacle course. All of these activities are fun first and then exercise second. That isn’t to say that other things on this list aren’t fun, but they don’t immediately strike you as a fun activity in the way that these do. Your little ones may actually show interest in pursuing one of these for sport or activity in the future.
Team sports can be especially attractive due to the friendships your kids can make. There are so many to choose from that finding the right one can sometimes feel overwhelming. However, if your kid has shown an interest in a sport that they have seen on TV or tried at school, then you should encourage them to pursue it, at least for one season. They can even attend summer sports camps such as the ones found here. These kinds of things are great for building teamwork, social skills and are great workout for your kids. If your kids aren’t finding any sports interesting, then you could try more fringe sports such as table tennis, skiing or even something like parkour. These sports might not immediately spring to mind in the same breath as ones like football and basketball. However, they are still great choices.
Family bike rides are are a fabulous choice for all ages. You can pick the route and make it as long or short as you want. You can even incorporate it into a family holiday where you cycle and then stay in a cabin or something. If your kids really get into it, they could pursue cycling events or triathlons for actual sport. If you have more adventurous kids or they are seeking a challenge, then you might also want to explore mountain biking. When done safely, this can be an exhilarating, healthy experience.
