I’ve recently entered a magnificent competition to attain a $250,000 grant through Pepsi’s Refresh Project. I’m asking for the money to produce 180 fitness video podcasts which would be available to be viewed daily by all Florida school children. The purpose of this project is to impact the children by providing health, fitness, sports and nutrition education on a consistent basis, fighting childhood obesity and promoting a healthy lifestyle. (Vote here!)
In a day which 90% of children go to school with high fat, high sugar lunches and spend their evenings at home plopped in front of a computer, I’m eager to get in to their lives and make an impact! Please vote for Fitter Florida Kids up to 10 times a day throughout the entire month of February. And if you feel strongly that children everywhere could benefit from a consistant fitness message, please ask your friends to vote too!
You may see the entire proposal at the voting site! Thanks to the Pepsi Company for this grand opportunity!
The Superbowl is a definite reason to party, but it definitely does NOT come with a legitimate reason to gorge on belly bustin’ food for four quarters! It makes no sense for you to become fatter while your heroic athletes are becoming fitter. See where I’m going with this? You guessed it! Keep the excitement high and the fat content and calories low; it’s really not that hard. Grill chicken breasts instead of burgers, skip the mayo and pick light beer over dark . You can also replace those traditionally greasy bowls of fried chips scattered around your party with better choices like Baked Kettle Brand Chips or Pirate’s Booty Puffed Snacks!
You can still snack, just snack smarter! Yes – you can still have all of the flavors you love! Yes – you can enjoy these tasty treats without squeezing out of your jeans by the end of the night! Seriously, Baked Kettle Brand Chips and Pirate’s Booty Puffed snacks will allow you to crunch up the salty stuff while maintaining your ship shape bod. With only 120 to 130 low fat calories per serving, your taste-buds will be tingly with delight and booty will look better than Payton Manning’s in his too-tight football pants! Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of American women? Most commonly thought of as a “man’s disease”, heart health is a clear and present concern for us ladies more so than anything else. This is an issue near and dear to me, because it’s literally … at the heart of what I do. In fact, this is what fitness is all about. Making great choices about what you put in your mouth and keeping your body fit so that all of your organs and muscles including the most important one “the heart” will provide you with a long and healthy life.
January 31st marks the start of Women’s Heart Health Week, and we’re kicking off with a spectacular giveaway from Timex! Since the American Heart Association advises calculating and monitoring your training heart rate, as well as pacing yourself while exercising, I thought the Timex Ironman Race Trainer and Timex Ironman Road Trainer with heart rate monitors would fit the bill perfectly! My clients and I have been using these training watches since December and have been really happy with the comfort, ease of use and highly functional features made for athletes of all levels. These watches practically serve as a personal trainer and coach, handy indeed!

A group of prestigious orthopedic and plastic surgeons from The Orthopedic Institute in Gainesville, Florida has traveled to Haiti to care for the victims of Haiti’s earthquake. They’ve been donating their expertise and time to save lives, and now they’ve also decided to throw in some major cash. These surgeons have pledged to donate $1 for every person who signs up to follow them on Twitter.
Not only is this an easy way for you to make a collaborative impact generating a large financial donation, but their tweets are gripping – bringing a wild view of what’s going on in those makeshift operating rooms. Here’s an actual tweet from their page “completed upper arm amputation on woman who had to be cut from rubble – she has been smiling the whole time she’s been here.” So don’t delay, follow these heroes in scrubs by clicking here and tell everyone you know to do so too. These donations and these doctors will save lives.
Make this on busy or leisurely mornings for a quick, nutritious and low calorie breakfast. Enjoy more recipes like these in my book, The Everything Flat Belly Cookbook.
Glamour, fitness and comfort have finally combined in the most beautiful line of sporting shoes I’ve ever seen. Sandbaggers, offers several lines of designer golf shoes which are literally designed for green runways. And unlike normal runways, the green ones I’m talking about go on for miles and miles. Why? Sandbaggers are made with Step Saver Orthotics, so you’ll actually want to walk pretty far while wearing them.
Besides Tiger Woods (who is officially TOO young and sexy for his own good), golf is mostly thought of as an old man’s sport. What girl wants to be associated with that image? Not many. But I assure you, the saucy thang putting and driving in these cutie kicks will only conjure up oohs and ahhs. Read the rest of this entry »
Erin Karpluk does a lot of traveling back in time as the star of “Being Erica”. Her character gets to use time-travel as a way to mend her past, which in fact, seems like something we all would like to do. Especially when it comes to our bodies and overall appearance! Here, Erin reveals how she reveres her body and what ridiculous fashion faux pas she’d like to undo. “Being Erica” the quirky new time travel comedy drama begins its second season, Wednesday, January 20 at 10:00PM ET/PT on Soapnet.
If you’re trying to lose weight or simply get your health in check, one of the most powerful moments in your journey is to get a clearer picture of what you’re putting in your mouth. It’s shocking how many people choose to blindly consume things they clearly do not understand and I’m hoping this little lesson will make you take a little pause before you take a bite.
I use the hot dog as a great example, because it’s contents, for most, are simply horrifying. Remember that show “Fear Factor”? I do. I remember the horror and nausea which overcame me each time the contestants sucked down plates of brains, testicles and intestines. The grand majority of us proclaimed we couldn’t do such a thing for all of the money in the world. But oddly, most people do. They do it often and they do it for free! Why? Did you know that most hot dogs are encased in the small intestines of sheep? Really? Really! And it’s probably a good time to remind you that the small intestines are the second to last portion of the gastrointestinal track, aka “the poo tube”,which leads to the large intestine and then out. Ew! How many poo tubes have you chewed? God only knows. Read the rest of this entry »
