The Australian entertainment group, The Wiggles, have already boogied their way on to the TV sets of every toddler and preschooler in the world, but apparently the small screen just isn’t enough. No, this funky phenomenon created by 4 men and a pirate who love to both entertain and educate the little ones is heading to a theater near you. I recently chatted with Anthony Field, the Blue Wiggle and director of The BIG BIG SHOW in the Round, who was, as usual, bubbling over with joy and excitement about this circus-themed production, the incredible new acrobatic stunts they’ve incorporated in to the musical show and his ridiculously fit new body.
Fitz: The BIG BIG show in the Round (a circular stage for those Americans who have no idea what a “round” is) is the first live concert movie for preschoolers. Tell me about it.
Anthony: Ohh Fitzy, it’s amazing! It’s the biggest show we’ve ever done and full of fantastic circus-inspired performances. We’ve had everyone up on the trapeze, doing cartwheels and all sorts of fun things during the live concerts. As people leave the show, it’s fun to see all of the children doing handstands and I think it’s really encouraging children to get out and take gymnastics and try athletic things themselves in a fun, safe way. Now we’re sharing this fantastic experience in movie theaters too!
Fitz: Was the circus them a result of your and Paddie’s (Paul Paddick, aka Captain Feathersword) new passion for acrobatics?
Anthony: We’re actually moving towards a fully blown circus, and hopefully next year we’ll be taking a circus tent around – we’ll do that in Australia at least. So we’re all trying to get in as many skills as we can. We’re planning on bringing in the Spanish web, and right now we’re doing trapeze, trampolining and more. I love the circus and I think everyone loves the circus. And we’ve got The Wiggles music, which I think is quality music for children. So you put the together and you’ve got a lot of fun for the year and a half that the show’s on.
Fitz: What is your favorite stunt in the show? Read the rest of this entry »

As many of you know, I’m always pushing the idea of using your own body weight as the best method of strength training, and I’ve been a fan of ring training for the past few years since the athletic entertainer Anthony Field of The Wiggles introduced them to me in this video interview. I still love the rings, but am also now a fan of a much more sophisticated system called TRX Suspension Training.
The TRX Suspension Trainer, developed by Fitness Anywhere, allows you to use your own body weight to train for strength, flexibility, power, balance, and mobility. It’s a fairly small and lightweight tool that can be used practically anywhere you go. Use it at home, the office, a hotel, your crabby in-laws for some stress relief, at a park, beach or in your sick pals hospital room. It’s really that portable! Read the rest of this entry »

I’d like to impart an important message to those of you on a mission to lose weight. It’s nearly impossible to exercise off reckless eating and drinking. Think about it: You could easily consume 500 calories in less than five minutes. It would take most of you at least one complete hour of vigorous exercise to burn those same 500 calories off. Imagine how calorically expensive a “big night out” could be.
One reckless night out could easily destroy your entire week’s efforts to lose. Example? Three single-liquor cocktails at 150 calories each (450 total), eight buffalo wings pack 1050 calories, 8 nachos from a nacho supreme appetizer alone account for 569 calories and one small piece of chocolate cake equals 600. So this fun night out is going to add 2669 calories on top of the regular breakfast, lunch and snacks you’ve eaten that day. Ouch! Read the rest of this entry »

Did you know that passionate kissing enhances your general state of well-being? Kissing expert, Andrea Demirjian, author of Kissing – Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About One of Life’s Sweetest Pleasures, says that luscious lip-locking will not only leave you with that “ooo la la” cool mint sensation, it’s good for you too! Kissing is a fun way to give a boost to your brain and body issues. Here’s what can some passionate puckering do:
- Burn & Tone: Kissing revs your metabolism. Depending on the intensity of the passion, it can burn up to 2 to 6 calories a minute (as compared to 11 calories on a treadmill). It’s also a great heart pumping/pulse racing work out. Serious smooching requires the use of all sorts of muscles and tendons for total body conditioning.
- Protect & Boost: Kissing is a beautiful way to stimulate oxytocin and other body chemicals that help fight disease, and get that “good for you” bacteria that boosts your immune system. Read the rest of this entry »

Knitty Gritty Gloves
There’s no denying that this winter has been unusually cold, and unless you’re American Olympic Gold Medal winner Lindsay Vonn … this season has been close to unbearable. Now I’m in Florida and of course the rest of the country is much colder, but the problem with being here in freezing temps versus “up there” in freezing temps is that us southerners are completely unprepared! We don’t have ice scrapers and we certainly don’t have proper clothing! In fact, I’ve been on a three month search for anything that would stop the icy wind from making my bones ache, but nothing in town even comes close. Finally I decided to shop smart, and that’s when I found Ibex.
Ibex is a line of outdoor clothing specifically designed to keep fitness fiends and outdoorsman going in the all sorts of weather. I contacted Ibex stating that I needed clothes to wear while running, hiking or taking my kids to the park. In return I ended up with a complete set of layers including: bra, panties, a thin woolies crew, a woolie zip t-neck, a rave down vest, and some knitty gritty gloves. I knew as I pulled each item out of the box they would give me my life back and finally yank the chill out of my bones. The materials are soft, luxurious and built for comfort. Help Florida Kids get fit!
I’ve recently entered a magnificent competition to attain a $250,000 grant through Pepsi’s Refresh Project. I’m asking for the money to produce 180 fitness video podcasts which would be available to be viewed daily by all Florida school children. The purpose of this project is to impact the children by providing health, fitness, sports and nutrition education on a consistent basis, fighting childhood obesity and promoting a healthy lifestyle. (Vote here!)
In a day which 90% of children go to school with high fat, high sugar lunches and spend their evenings at home plopped in front of a computer, I’m eager to get in to their lives and make an impact! Please vote for Fitter Florida Kids up to 10 times a day throughout the entire month of February. And if you feel strongly that children everywhere could benefit from a consistant fitness message, please ask your friends to vote too!
You may see the entire proposal at the voting site! Thanks to the Pepsi Company for this grand opportunity!

The Superbowl is a definite reason to party, but it definitely does NOT come with a legitimate reason to gorge on belly bustin’ food for four quarters! It makes no sense for you to become fatter while your heroic athletes are becoming fitter. See where I’m going with this? You guessed it! Keep the excitement high and the fat content and calories low; it’s really not that hard. Grill chicken breasts instead of burgers, skip the mayo and pick light beer over dark . You can also replace those traditionally greasy bowls of fried chips scattered around your party with better choices like Baked Kettle Brand Chips or Pirate’s Booty Puffed Snacks!
You can still snack, just snack smarter! Yes – you can still have all of the flavors you love! Yes – you can enjoy these tasty treats without squeezing out of your jeans by the end of the night! Seriously, Baked Kettle Brand Chips and Pirate’s Booty Puffed snacks will allow you to crunch up the salty stuff while maintaining your ship shape bod. With only 120 to 130 low fat calories per serving, your taste-buds will be tingly with delight and booty will look better than Payton Manning’s in his too-tight football pants!
